Hello Everyone,
A few months back when I was obsessively scrounging the internet for paraben-free skin care products for acne-prone sensitive skin, I came across Vichy Normaderm Tri-active Anti Imperfection Hydrating Care. I read some reviews which excited me enough that I went ahead and bought it the same day. To be very honest, I did not like it as much as I hoped I would.

Price: INR 1250 for 50 ml
Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Aluminium/Starch Octenylsuccinate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Isononyl Isononanoate, Nylon-66, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Isopropyl Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Ammonium Polyacryldimethyltauramide/Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Sodium Hydroxide, Glycolic Acid, Silica, Salicylic Acid, Perlite, c12-13 Pareth-23, c12-13 Pareth-3, CI 42090/Blue 1, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, Sodium Polyacrylate, Poloxamer 338, Disodium EDTA, Capryloyl Salicylic Acid, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Polysorbate 80, Parfum/Fragrance.

*What the company claims:

  • Cream-gel texture.
  • Paraben free.
  • Fresh fragrance.
  • Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.
  • Dermatoligically tested.
  • Triple action.
Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care is a triple action hydrating face cream which provides you with:

1. Total anti-imperfection action: Clogged pores, shine, imperfections and irregular texture.
2. 24 hour hydration.
3. Long lasting matte finish: Anti-oil (silica) + Anti-humidity (perlite) action.

Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care has a unique ‘Hydra-Peel’ effect. The three peeling ingredients are combined in a hydrating emulsion-gel texture that is quickly absorbed into the skin and leaves a matte finish.

Hydra-Peel Technology:

LHA-A
patented ingredient that helps gently micro-exfoliate the surface of the skin for a smoother surface and uniform complexion.
Salicylic Acid-Targets pores and helps break down blackheads and whiteheads by gently microexfoliating the top layer of skin and clearing blocked pores.
Glycolic Acid-Naturally neutralises bacteria that cause imperfections.

Directions for Use: Apply a small amount of Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care daily to thoroughly cleansed skin. Suitable for sensitive skin.

My Experience:

Texture: It has a thick gel cosistency which spreads easily.

Fragrance: I found the fragrance a little too over powering. Not unpleasant, but a little too clinical-cosmetic-ish smell[I don't know how else to explain it]. The smell is too strong for a gel-based treatment. The smell instantly makes me feel like I am applying something really heavy and clogging on my face. And the smells lingers a long time after use.

Packaging: It comes in a cute, sturdy white pump container.

Did it work for me and stand up to its claims: No. It broke me out. I think the reason being that it has Dimethicone as one of the ingredients[see the highlighted ingredient in the list] and Dimethicone is known to cause cystic acne in people. WHY would they use a acne causing ingredient in a anti-acne product is something I cannot wrap my head around.

Note that I had pretty clear skin when I started using this product. In the beginning, I used the Vichy Normaderm Tri-active Anti Imperfection Hydrating cream at night after my cleansing routine. I used it alone, on its own[I dint use any pimple cream or moisturizer] because its supposed to be all-in-one product. After about 3 days, I started noticing 1-2 pimples cropping up and also experienced drying/burning sensations at the corners of my nose and chin. So then, I used it on top of my acne cream and applied moisturizer on top of it, it dint help and my skin became more visibly irritated.

I was disappointed, but I wanted to give it another try, so I used it in the morning instead, beneath my sunscreen. It felt heavy on my face and I could FEEL my skin clogging up, you know what I mean? Also, my skin became irritated faster. So after about 20 days I gave up on this Vichy Normaderm Tri-active Anti Imperfection Hydrating Care and decided its not for me.

Pros:

  • Comes in a sturdy, clean pump packaging
  • Has a gel texture
  • Contains Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid and LHA’s
  • Paraben free

Cons:

  • Has a very strong, clog-y fragrance
  • Contains Dimethicone which is known to cause cystic acne in many women
  • Broke my skin out and caused burning sensation.
  • Dint stand up to any of its claims

Who would I recommend this to: This product din’t suit me much but I have read some good reviews about it. So, I would say, use this product if you have oily skin which has slight imperfections and which is not very sensitive, it might actually work for you. But if you have reactive skin, then I would ask you to stay away from it.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I hope this helped,
xoxo

It’s an alpha hydroxy based product, acids burn at the beginning dear but you have to be patient becoz after getting used to it, you won’t experience that burning sensation and about its breaking out fact, it’s becoz alpha hydroxy acids first bring out all acne on top and then starts its way to clear up skin, I’m telling this from my personal experience hope you don’t mind, btw great review sweety, if you are allergic to it, skip it right away :)

Thanks for sharing your experience Arzoo. No I don’t mind it.

I had zero acne before I started using it. No tiny bumps hidden underneath the skin, nothing. I just used it as a precaution and protection for my oily skin. This caused me pimples. I think Dimethicone was the culprit. Whenever I have used Dimethicone based foundation it breaks me out :)

True. As I have said Dimethicone is known to cause cystic acne in many women[google]. I really dint pay much attention to the ingredient list apart from confirming that it had no parabens before buying it. But once it started breaking me out, I did a through research of why :)

I have tried other products from this same “normaderm” range Shreya, they have all pretty much suited me except this one. Skip this one if you can. I will do a review on others soon.
